One of the things we love about Amadeus is that they have their excursions sold separately, but affordably priced. This allows them to offer us a great price for the cruise, and allows us to control our trip budget by choosing the activities that fit our budget and interests the best. You can purchase excursions separately or in the 4 available packages described below. I will also have alternative plans for many days and anyone who wants can participate with me. If I am going to do an excursion, I will let the group know and you would be on your own.
Day 1 & Day 8
Welcome to the culinary capital of France. Raise a glass with a welcome cocktail, indulge in a sumptuous dinner, and prepare to drift upstream along the Saône as your journey begins.
Day 2
Step into Burgundy’s storied past on a morning visit to the impressive ruins of Cluny Abbey, once Europe’s spiritual heart. Continue to the medieval Château de Pierreclos, exploring its vaulted cellars, armory, and dungeons – with wine and cheese tastings included. In the afternoon, journey through the scenic Beaujolais and Mâconnais vineyards to the “Hameau Duboeuf” wine experience park, where interactive exhibits, 3D films, and tastings immerse you in the region’s vinicultural heritage.

Day 3
Begin in Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. Admire Rogier van der Weyden’s masterpiece, The Last Judgment, at the Hôtel-Dieu museum, and sample some of the area’s celebrated wines. In the afternoon, follow the vineyards to the medieval village of Brancion and the magnificent Château de Cormatin, exploring its historic rooms and gardens. Return to the ship in Tournus as it sets sail for Lyon.

Day 4
Lyon entices with history and gastronomy alike. On a guided tour, marvel at the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, the St.-Jean Cathedral, and the charming streets of Vieux Lyon. Wander through this UNESCO-listed Old Town at your own pace, or indulge your taste buds on the AMADEUS culinary excursion through Les Halles Paul Bocuse, sampling local cheeses, pastries, wine, and other regional specialties.

Explore the Papal city of Avignon with its narrow streets, elegant city palaces, and the iconic Palais des Papes. Day 6
Discover Arles, from its Roman monuments to the Café Van Gogh that inspired The Night Café.
